MILESTONES:
IGNOU Regional Centre, Varanasi was initially established as Sub Regional Centre in the year 2006 which was upgraded as Regional Centre in the year 2008.
In pursuance to an MOU signed between IGNOU and Ministry of Textiles, IGNOU Regional Centre Varanasi has enrolled 2822 learners of Weaver community in January- 2017 session.
Two (02) Jail Inmates namely, Mr. Ajeet Kumar and Mr. Suresh Ram have received Gold Medals in DTS Programme in 28th and 29th Convocation respectively.
A total 04 Gold Medal in last 06 Years under Regional Centre Varanasi.
Established 02 Regular Study Centres in Naxal affected districts in BRD PG College Duddhi Sonebhadra and Savitri Bai Fule Govt. PG College Chakia Chandauli.
Established One (01) Special Study Centre for Slum dwellers in Jeevan Deep Mahavidyalay Badalal Pur, Varanasi (48037D).
A total of 148 Students from IGNOU Study Centre Microtek College of Management and Technology (Code- 48012) received placements in companies like MPHASIS, OUTLOOK, VIDEOCON, VILAY INFOSYSTEM etc.
On 21st January 1942 Mahatma Gandhi visited BHU, as a Chief Guest in Silver Jubilee of BHU Varanasi and it was Oath & his last visit to Varanasi. He performed his evening prayer in same premise where RC Varanasi is functioning at present. Since 2016 Every year on 21st January RC Varanasi organizes Gandhi Jis Bhajan programme and followed by a lectures by eminent Gandhian philosophers at RC premises.
To popularize and acknowledge the rich cultural and intellectual heritage of Varanasi (Kashi) a new initiative of talk series in Interview Form with intellectuals from various fields belonging to Varanasi has been started at Gyanvani station Varanasi since 18th April 2018 (World Heritage day). The topic of talk series is "Kashi: Ateet aur Vartamaan" every Saturday.
