In order to provide higher education in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, IGNOU Sub Regional Centre was eastablished in Varanasi in 2006 which was upgraded as Regional Centre in 2008 having its jurisdiction in 19 districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
